Zombie attacks and other disasters

The CDC has released a report of Zombies attacks in an attempt to emphasize the need for us to be prepared for any disaster. Parental discretion is advised as these guys can be pretty scary- it’s a fun graphic novel for teens and adults, but check it out first before sharing with the younger folk as I don’t want to be held responsible for sleepless nights! At the end of the story there is a list to get you started in making your own disaster kit. We all have a few things on hand and, here in Ames, many experienced the need to have bottled water during the flooding in the summer of 2010! Here is some information to get you started on a disaster kit:

Also, you need a plan for your family to meet under different emergency situations, this includes what to do about your pets. I tell my kids that I will not worry about the pets until I know that they are safe, so there will be no running back into the burning house for the hamster! Their job is to get themselves out and stay where I can find them. Having carrying cages easily available, leashes handy and a travel kit of basic pet supplies (including food!) can make things go smoother. So here’s your reminder to make those supply lists and disaster kits just in case the power goes out this winter or zombies come to your door this halloween!
